The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.

I tested the pattern and added the information in blue that I had omitted.

MATERIALS:

4 ply Cotton Yarn
Hook Size I
1/2" button
Coordinating sewing thread
Sewing needle

Stitches: ch, sc.

FL/BL Sc Dec (not a standard stitch):
Insert hook in FL of 1st st and draw up a loop.
Insert hook in BL of 2nd st and draw up a loop.
Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops.


BL/FL Sc Dec (not a standard stitch):
Insert hook in BL of 1st st and draw up a loop.
Insert hook in FL of 2nd st and draw up a loop.
Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops.


Notes:
the front loop is the loop closest to you.
the back loop is the loop farthest from you.

Difficulty: EASY/MEDIUM

 


Row 1: Ch 50, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Ch 1, turn. (49 sc)

Rows 2-42: Sc in front loop of first st. * Sc in back loop of next st. Sc in front lp of next st.
Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
(49 sc in ea row)

Rows 43-44: (FL/BL Sc Dec over next 2 sts) across to last st. Sc in FL of last st. Ch 1, turn.
(Row 43 has 25 sts and Row 44 has 13 sts)

Rows 45-56: Sc in FL of 1st st.
* Sc in BL of next st. Sc in FL of next st. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn. (13 sts in ea row)

Row 57: (FL/BL Sc Dec over next 2 sts) 3 times. Ch 1, sk next st.
(BL/FL Sc Dec over next 2 sts) 3 times. Ch 1, turn. (7 sts)

Row 58: FL/BL Sc Dec over 1st 2 sts. Sc in FL. Sc in BL. Sc in FL.
BL/FL Sc Dec over last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. (5 sts)

Row 59: Sc in front loop of first st. * Sc in back loop of next st. Sc in front lp of next st.
Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn. (5 sts)

Row 60: FL/BL Sc Dec over 2 sts. Sc in next st. BL/FL Sc Dec over last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. (3 sts)

Edging: Sc evenly around entire towel, working one sc in each st and row end around, placing 3 sc in each corner and extra stitches near the decrease rows so your towel doesn't curl up. Join with a sl st.
Fasten Off.

Finishing: Attach a button at the center of Row 45. The ch-1 sp and skipped st on Row 57 is the button hole.

NOTE: My Mom's oven door handle is bigger than mine.. if you need to increase the length of the part of the pattern that covers the handle simply repeat Row 45 more than listed.
