Drawstring Evening Bag

Measures
approximately
6" tall and 4-3/4" wide
with no contents

MATERIALS:

Red Heart Baby Sport Pompadour (Color 1312 Black)
Approximately 1-3/4 ounces

Hook Size G

Yarn Needle

Stitches: ch, sl st, sc, sc dec, dc.

Difficulty: EASY/MEDIUM


BOTTOM:

R1: Ch45, 4dc in 4th ch from hook. Sc in next ch. *Sk next ch. 5dc in next ch. Sk next ch. Sc in next ch. Rep from * across. Join with sl st in top of 1st ch. Do not turn.

R2: Sl st across to center dc of the next 5dc group. Ch1, sc in same dc. -Place Marker-
5dc in next sc. *Sc in center dc of next 5dc group. 5dc in next sc. Rep from * around. Sl st in marked sc.

R3: Ch3, 4dc in same st. ( Place marker in 3rd ch of beg ch3) Sc in center dc of next 5dc group. *5dc in next sc. Sc in center dc of next 5dc group. Rep from * around. Sl st in marked st.

R4: Rep R2

R5: Rep R3

R6: Rep R2

R7: Rep R3

R8: Sl st across to center dc of next 5dc group. Ch1, sc in same st. Place Marker.
Sc dec over next 2 dc. Sc in next sc. * Sc dec over 2dc. Sc in next dc. Sc dec over 2dc. Sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Sc dec over next 2 sts. Join with sl st in marked st.

R9: This is a continuous round.
Ch1, (sc dec next two sts tog) around until opening is closed.

Fasten Off.

Using a yarn needle, weave tail in.

TOP:

R1: Working along the edge of Rnd 1, join yarn in same ch as one of the 5dc groups. (in the same stitch the 5 doubles were worked into) Ch6, (sc in ch of next 5dc group, ch6) around. Join with sl st in same st where you originally joined the yarn.

R2: Sl st in ch6 sp. Ch3, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp. (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ea rem ch6 sp. Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.

R3: Sl st over to next ch2 sp. Ch3, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp. (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ea rem ch2 sp. Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.

Fasten Off.

DRAWSTRING:

R1: Ch3, sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in last ch. Ch1, turn.

R2: Sc in ea sc. Ch1, turn.

Rep R2 until drawstring measures 36" long.

Fasten off leaving a length for sewing.

FINISHING: Being careful not to twist the drawstring, weave it in and out of the ch6 spaces on R1 of the Top twice (once you weave through, keep weaving through the same spaces again until the ends meet). Sew the ends of the drawstring together. Now you can pull on two opposite loops to close the bag.
