The following pattern is my original design and can only be copied or printed for personal use.

MATERIALS:

Hook: Size I (I use Boye brand)

Yarn: Any 4ply worsted weight yarn. Simply Soft yarn works really well.

Stitches used: ch, sl st, dc.

Difficulty: EASY

ROW 1: Chain 10, (2dc, ch 2, 2 dc {shell made} ) in 7th ch from hk, dc in last ch, ch 3, turn.

ROW 2: Work a shell in the ch 2 space at the center of the last row, dc in top of beg ch 3, ch 3, turn.

ROWS 3-7: Repeat Row 2.

ROW 8: Repeat Row 2 but do not turn.

EDGING:

Working down the side: * sc around post of next dc, ch 3, sc around same dc, ch 3, repeat from * 7 times.

Working across bottom side: sc to the right of the base of the shell on Row 1, ch 3, sc in hole made at the base of the same shell, ch 3, sc to the left of the base of the shell, ch 3.

Working up the other side: * sc around post of next dc, ch 3, sc around same dc, ch 3, repeat from * 7 times.

Working across of top side: sc to the right of the shell on Row 8, ch 3. Sc, ch 3, sc in the center of the shell. Ch 3. Join with a sl st at the base of beg ch 3.

Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

Fringe (leave hanging out of the book): Cut 3 pieces of yarn approximately 12 inches long. Insert hook in ch 3 loop at the point of the top of the bookmark. Fold all 3 strands of yarn in half. With right side facing, and using the hook, draw the folded ends of the yarn up through the ch 3 sp and pull the loose ends through the folded end. This completes the fringe and all you need to do is tighten up the knot by pulling on the six strands of yarn.

NOTE: This pattern makes a nice gift for any occasion.

HAPPY CROCHETING
