Basketweave Towel Topper

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.

MATERIALS:

4 ply Cotton
Steel Hook Size 1
G Hook
Small Button
Yarn Needle/Sewing Needle
Coordinating Sewing Thread
Stitches Used: ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, bpdc, fpdc.

Difficulty: MEDIUM/DIFFICULT

NOTE: Choose a dish towel that has the same print on each half. Cut the towel in half and hem the cut edge as this makes it easier to incorporate the first row.


R1: Using the Steel Hook Size 1, work 45 sc evenly spaced along cut edge of towel. Ch3, turn.

R2: Use the G hook throughout the remainder of the pattern. Dc in ea st (45dc)

R3: Sl st around front of dc just made. Ch2. Fpdc around next 4 sts. (Bpdc around next 5 sts, Fpdc around the next 5 sts) across.

R4: Sl st around back of dc just made. Ch2. Bpdc around next 4 sts. (Fpdc around next 5 sts, Bpdc around next 5 sts) across.

R5: Sl st around back of dc just made. Ch2. Bpdc around next 4 sts. (Fpdc around next 5 sts, Bpdc around next 5 sts) across.

R6: Sl st around front of dc just made. Ch2. Fpdc around next 4 sts. (Bpdc around next 5 sts, Fpdc around next 5 sts) across.

R7: Sl st around back of dc just made. Ch2. Bpdc around next 4 sts. (Fpdc around next 5 sts, Bpdc around next 5 sts) across.

R8: Rep R7.

R9: Rep R6.

R10: Rep R7.

R11: Ch2, turn. (Dc between next 2 sts) across.

R12: Ch2, turn. (Dc dec over 2sts) across to last st. Dc in last st.

R13: Ch2, turn. (Dc dec over 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in next st. (Dc dec over 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in last st.

R14: Ch2, turn. (Dc dec over 2 sts) twice. Dc dec over 3 sts. (Dc dec over 2 sts) twice. Dc in last st.

R15-28: Ch2, turn. Dc in ea st. (7dc).

R29: Ch2, turn. Hdc in next 2 sts. Ch1, sk next st, hdc in last 3 sts.

R30: Ch1, turn. Sc in same st. 6dc in ch1 sp. Sc in last st.

Sew button at center of R15.
NOTE: The skipped stitch on R29 forms the button hole.

Fasten Off.
