WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins preiously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."

Romans 3:21-26

"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation - having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory."

Ephesians 1:7-14

"For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience, joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:9-14

"GOD'S FORGIVENESS IS THE DOOR TO A NEW BEGINNING."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - January, 2002 Issue.

Enlarging an Afghan

Courtesy of Paulette:

QUESTION

"I am new at crocheting....if you want to make an afghan larger, do you double, triple, etc. the original pattern or do you just crochet what the pattern says, making it as long as you desire, and do it however many times you need and join the strips together? I'm confused. thanks in advance for your help....paulette"

ANSWER

How you enlarge an afghan depends on the type of pattern.
For a Mile A Minute pattern you can make extra strips as long as you want.
For an afghan containing a design the process is more difficult.

Alot of afghan patterns specify "Multiple of X + X".
Does your pattern include such language?
If it says a multiple of 4+1, then you make your foundation chain evenly divisible by 4 and then add 1 more to start. This way the pattern will work out evenly.
If you've already begun the project you may be able to simply add extra rows to make it larger.

ILLUSTRATED BASIC CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEGINNER:

HOW TO DO A STARTING CHAIN

SINGLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

TRIPLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

CROCHET TIP:

When using a yarn needle to weave in yarn ends always choose
a needle with an eye that is near the size of your yarn orthread.
Here's an example of why... if you use bedspread weight cotton with
a needle sized for worsted weight yarn then you will have difficulty
sewing through your work and the needle itself will distort your
stitches.

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

Greetings Lisa,

Loved the SoapSaver Bath Mitt--what a clever idea! My mom used to sew
something similar together out of terry cloth, but the crocheted
version is much nicer. How long ago did you come up with the idea?

Regards-- Mary Ann Coren

Hi,

I just want to say thank you. I was attempting to crochet a pair of booties for my soon coming grandchild and didn't understand the abbreviations. I clicked into you site and was amazed at the free info. I gleaned. All I can say is thank you again and again. What a wonderful site for would be crocheters like me.

Comments: What a great site. I'm attempting to learn how to crochet, and your site is definitely full of great information. The real reason I'm writing is to tell you how amazing it is to see a Christian proudly witnessing others. You're doing an awesome job - keep up the great work!

Melissa

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

HUMOR

How Come?

I was browsing in a souvenir shop when the man next to me struck up a
conversation.

Just as he was telling me that his wife was getting carried away with her
shopping, a brief power shortage caused the lights to flicker overhead.

"Ah," he sighed that must he her checking out now."

One Sunday a cowboy went to church.

When he entered, he saw that he and the preacher were the only ones present.
The preacher asked the cowboy if he wanted him to go ahead and preach.

The cowboy said, "I'm not too smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and
only one showed up, I'd feed him."

So the minister began his sermon.

One hour passed, then two hours, then two-and-a-half hours.

The preacher finally finished and came down to ask the cowboy how he had
liked the sermon.

The cowboy answered slowly,

"Well, I'm not very smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one
showed up, I sure wouldn't feed him ALL the hay."

I just read a report that stated that last year 4,153,237 people got
married.

I don't want to start any trouble, but shouldn't that be an even number?

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be
confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.

"Good morning," said the young man. "If I could take a couple of minutes of
your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered
vacuum cleaners."

"Go away!" said the old lady. "I haven't got any money!" and she proceeded
to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it
wide open. "Don't be too hasty!" he said. "Not until you have at least
seen my demonstration."

And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet.

"If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from
your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder."

"Well," she said, "I hope you've got a darned good appetite, because the
electricity was cut off this morning."

A tough old cowboy once counseled his grandson that if he wanted to live a
long life, the secret was to sprinkle a little gunpowder on his oatmeal
every morning.

The grandson did this religiously and he lived to the age of 93.

When he died, he left 14 children, 28 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren
and a fifteen foot hole in the wall of the crematorium.
